To begin with, how to motorise a roller shutter?

A tubular motor is fitted into the tube around which the curtain (i.e. all the roller shutter slats) is wound. The motor is powered by electricity in order to operate the shutter. To avoid damaging the curtain, the shutter is usually protected by a box.
The box can be integrated into the window itself, fitted above it or directly inserted into the thickness of the wall.
Somfy motorises all types of roller shutters, whatever the type of installation. Several types of roller shutter installation are available depending on your project (renovation or new-build).

The traditional roller shutter

The traditional roller shutter is composed of the shaft around which the curtain is wound, and guides along which the edges of the shutter slide.

It can then be incorporated into a tunnel roller shutter box or a box fitted above the window.

The renovation box

The renovation box is installed outside the window and integrated into the facade. It can be installed under the lintel or surface-mounted on the facade. It is also referred to as an integrated roller shutter unit.

This type of shutter is assembled and configured by the manufacturers at the factory. The shutter is delivered to the installer ready to be fitted. This type of installation is preferred by professionals for renovation work.

The solar powered roller shutter box

The photovoltaic panel fitted to this type of box will preserve the aesthetics of your façade. It is an ideal solution for renovation projects as it can be installed from the outside.

The tunnel roller shutter box

The box is invisible as it is concealed in the thickness of the wall thanks to a specific compartment included in the construction plans. The tunnel box is assembled and installed on the construction site.

This type of installation is possible for construction work.

The half-lintel box

This type of installation is like a lintel box as it is exclusively used for building work. The box is also invisible as it is integrated into the thickness of the wall.

The advantage of the half-lintel box is that it does not reduce the thickness of the insulation in the facade, thus providing better thermal performance and air-tightness.

The combined roller shutter and bay window

The roller shutter and the window form a single unit. The shutter box and its guides are integrated into the window itself.

This type of installation can be used in renovation and new-build work.

The roller shutter with moveable slats or external venetian blinds

This system allows the position of the shutter slats to be adjusted for better management of air and light.

This type of roller shutter is often proposed for renovation work.

The tilting roller shutter

The tilting roller shutter is integrated into a renovation box.

It ventilates the house and protects you from prying eyes and the sun.

The roller shutter for roof window

This type of roller shutter is fitted to skylights and provides effective insulation for attic spaces or rooms with sloping ceilings.

This type of installation can be used in renovation and new-build work.
